Ed, Just read about your Mom's passing. I would like to send my condolences out to you and your family. I'm sure you've heard this a million times before but I need to say it also...She was an extaordinary lady. I loved going to your house as a young teenager and visiting with her. She always showed such interest and caring around us all. Thinking of you at this sad time. Ricki

To Ruby's Family'
What a shock and how sad I finally found my dear old T.T.C. friend. Ruby and I walked to Brandon College together many, many days back in 1959-60. I have asked about her so often when meeting up with "kids" from that class. Two years ago we had the 50th Reunion of the Class and I knew she would be there if able, but----!
I always wondered why I never tried to phone her but time goes and we put stuff off with some excuse or other.
My best to you all, I can imagine she was a GREAT grandmother to the young ones!!

It is not everyday that a first year grade one teacher gets the opportunity to mentor with a teacher as "top notch" as Ruby. Over the 11 years that we worked in classrooms side by side at Valleyview School, not only did Ruby share her tricks of the trade but more importantly she taught me the importance of teaching the whole child. She taught me the importance of empowering each child and encouraging them to shine in their own unique ways. I continue to love spending my days in a classroom of rambunctious Kindergarten children. Not long ago, I purchased a bucket hat just like Ruby wore.... I think of her often when I wear it at recess. Mine is grey with snowflakes but I know Ruby would love it as much as her dear red one. Ruby spoke lovingly of her children and grandchildren. You were SO special to her and her passing will be a great loss to each of you. I am thankful for the opportunity to have known and loved your mom and grandma. With sincere sympathy, Lisa

We were saddened to learn of Ruby's passing. Having re-located from MB to the AB Foothills 4 years ago, we subscribe to Brandon Sun Online, thus reading of her death. Our 2 daughters Shauna & Heidi, had the honor of having Ruby as their Gr. 1 teacher & they reaped the rewards of her year with each of them! I (Sharon) also had a similar honor of teaching at Valleyview with Ruby for a number of years & it was an absolute joy to have worked alongside such a great lady! As well as her gift of effective primary teaching, we always admired her ability to "walk everywhere"!! As years went on. she never seemed to age a day!
We never had the opporitunity to meet you, Philip & Edwyn, but our thoughts & prayers are with you & your families at this difficult time.
In Sympathy,
Ian & Sharon (Stott) Bobiak, Shauna, Heidi & Alberta families

I was so sad to hear that Ruby had passed away and wish to pass on my condolences. My late wife Joan had worked with Ruby as ateaching assistant for a few years back in the 90's and just thought the world of her. I was a friend and often would help Ruby out with odd jobs around her home. As Phys. Ed. teacher I would always use Ruby as an excellent example of life long fitness with my students. Last summer when I was home to Brandon I was asking a friend about Ruby, as I missed seeing her out on her daily walks. The first friend I asked wasn't sure who she was so I discribed her as the beautiful lady wearing a hat that you see her walking every where. Joan and I loved her kind and positive spirit as did everyone that knew her. Ruby will be missed

Phil, Eddy and families: Sorry to hear about your loss. Your mom was at Valleyview Centennial when I was a student. Always remember her walking around the west end. I knew as we both taught at the same time as well.
Take care,
Sincerely,
Rod Zenk

I had the honour of teaching next door to Ruby at Valleyview Elementary. Ruby was the person everyone went to for advice. Her calm, easy going nature and the quiet way she had of listening helped me solve any problem. Ruby's love for children was evident every moment of the day. I remember her laughter and her wisdom. I know Ruby helped me to grow as a teacher. Thank you Ruby.

Ed, Phil, Verna and Millie and your children,
I was so sad to read of your mother's passing. She was my mentor, the kindest, most thoughtful primary teacher that I have ever known. I enjoyed my time so much in her classroom as a student teacher and then as her teaching partner for seven years at Valleyview. Her students never forgot her and would visit her when they were adults. I remember one visit where Glen Hanlon ( who was then an NHL goalie) came to visit her after all the students had left so as not to cause a big commotion.
More importantly she became my good friend and I continued to miss her for many years after our move to B.C. in 1989. I looked forward to our occasional phone calls. I don't need to tell you that your mother was a "gem" in the truest sense of the word, her name really suited her.
