KABAN: Adolph "Edward" Kaban, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, April 6th, 2012 at the age of 71 years. Edward was born on May 21st, 1940 in Rossburn, Manitoba. He attended Glen Elmo Country School until grade 8, then went on to study mechanics at Manitoba Technical Institute in Winnipeg. Upon his return, he joined his dad on the farm. He worked with horses and tractors in his early years. At age16, Posarino Construction of Grandview gave him the opportunity to run a crawler to clear the land. After seeing his abilities, contractor Patricia Transportation gave him a two-way ticket to run crawlers at Kelsy Hydro Power Dam. The train ride ended in Thompson which, back then was only a one room shack, and then an 80 mile ride by Bombadier to site. Here he learned to weld from a company mechanic, work ended when ice started to break on Nelson River. He ran Mixed Farm for forty years in partnership with his father, Matt and brother, Eugene. He ran a crawler for John Tisnohuz clearing land. He designed and built his own equipment for farm and shop to make life easier. He retired to Brandon in 2001. Edward enjoyed fishing, taking one-day trips to the countryside to relax and to hunt. At retirement, he felt he had achieved everything he wanted related to farming. His last project in retirement was building a miniature four wheel drive from two garden tractors.
