Obituary of Pearl Bernice Melnick

MELNICK: Pearl Bernice (née Badowicz). On Friday, November 30th, 2012, Pearl slipped silently from earth, to the waiting arms of God. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings and husband, Steve. Pearl was born on May 17th, 1921 in Griswold, Manitoba to Michael and Bernice Badowicz, the eldest of four children, Helen, Verna and John. Growing up in a trilingual home, Pearl very easily conversed in Polish, Ukrainian and English. In her early years, Pearl proved to be an avid student attending Hillsdale and Griswold schools, and even won a scholarship in Grade 11. Upon graduation, she moved to Brandon and began working in the Olympia Cafe where she met Stephen, the love of her life. They married on September 8th, 1942 and had 51 wonderful years together. When the children arrived, she became a "stay at home Mom". In 1954. she returned to work, first at Picardy's Bakery, then Kresge's and finally the Co-Op until her retirement. In a recent conversation with Mom, some things she had enjoyed were: driving, knitting, embroidery, gardening, church picnics, polka music and keeping up with news. Mom treasured her family, neighbours and friends. Pearl is survived by her children, Jeanette (Wallace) Robertson, their children, Adrian (Coralee) and James; Stephen (Ed) Melnick, wife Adeline and their children, Charissa VanDorp (Jeff Hadeth) and Loriena Melnick. Also by four great grandchildren, Stephen VanDorp, Seraphine VanDorp, Mikayla Melnick and Bryce Melnick. The family would like to thank Selkirk General, and especially Tudor House staff for their loving, compassionate care. The Funeral Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon on Friday, December 7th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Kevin Smith of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church officiating. Viewing will take place prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery.
