Obituary of Joyce Ellen Strain

STRAIN, Joyce Ellen passed away January 13, 2013 at Rideau Park PCH in Brandon, MB. Joyce was born on June 15, 1927 in Weyburn, SK. The family soon moved to Rivers, MB where Joyce completed her education. She moved to Brandon, MB in her late teens where she met her first husband at a dance at the Orange Hall. Together they had 10 children. Joyce lived in Brandon, Olha, (where she met her second husband), Strathclair, Rivers and back to Brandon, where she resided at Rideau Park PCH until her passing. Joyce worked at a number of jobs: United & Exchange Cafes, Perth's Cleaners, and as fry lady at McDonald's on Richmond Avenue. There were always a number of handicraft projects around Joyce's favorite chair: knitting, embroidery, needlepoint and crochet, etc. Joyce liked to travel: Los Angeles, CA, Prince George, BC and Dryden, ON. One of her more memorable trips was to Vancouver, BC to see the Beatles at their only concert in Canada. Joyce always had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her dog "Sparkles", and her blind budgies. She is survived by her sisters: Earlene Rogers and Dorothy Lamb (Leon Vercruysse), a brother: James (Zona) Borrowman, her children: Vi (Ralph) Sholdice, Thomas Wyton, Darlene (Leonard) Yaskiw, Vera Wyton, Gordon (Karen) Wyton, Bernice (Brent) Baldrey, Janet McGregor, Kevin (Carole) Wyton. Joyce has 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren plus many nieces, nephews and extended family. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Earl and Rose Borrowman, her first husband Clarence Wyton, her second husband Edward Strain, two daughters Margaret Wyton and Donna MacCallum and son in law Ronald MacCallum. A graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Urn bearer is her son Kevin Wyton. All those in attendance are considered honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 727B-10th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4G7.
