Obituary of Marie Louise Demers

DEMERS: Marie Louise Demers of Brandon, beloved mother of Roy, Carol, John, and wife of the late Leo Joseph Demers, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2013 at the age of 92. Marie was born on January 12, 1921 at Meyronne, Saskatchewan. She grew up and received her education in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. Upon moving to Brandon in the early 50's, she worked at the Brandon General Hospital and also worked seasonally at McKenzie Seeds. Marie and Leo got the urge to travel when they retired. They travelled to Europe, throughout the United States, Alaska and from one side of Canada to the other, and north to Churchill. Marie enjoyed bowling, square dancing and was always happy to join a game of cards. She was one of the original members of the East End Sunshine Club and during her younger years was an active member of the CWL. Marie was predeceased by her best friend and loving husband Leo in April 2010. She was also predeceased by her parents Louis and Phillardia Huys, brothers Cyril, Art, Marcel, Medard, Gerard and Gus Huys, sisters Margaret and Clara. Marie is survived by her children Roy (Betty) Demers, Carol (Pat) Baldock and John (Suzanne) Demers as well as grandchildren, Brent (Janice) Demers, Brad (Janna) Demers, Kyle and Justin Demers and great grandchildren, Jacob and Jordyn and Brooke Demers. Marie is also survived by her sister Dora (Malcolm) Workman of Regina and sisters-in-law Evelyn (Gus), Joy (Gerard), Betty (Art), and Estelle (Medard) Huys, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Kevin Smith as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Marie may be made to a charity of choice.
