Obituary of Richard "Rick" Potter

POTTER: Richard Oliver Potter of Brandon passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, on March 5, 2013 after a courageous battle against cancer. Rick was born in Deloraine on August 22, 1945 to Ollie Bill and Lil Potter. He was the oldest of three. Rick was raised on the farm and attended school in Deloraine. His younger years developed his true passion for the peaceful serenity of the country. Following school, Rick worked in construction and then joined the MLCC in 1966 for the next 35 years. He ended his career as Manager at the Shoppers Mall outlet. Following retirement, Rick worked part-time at Shilo, his own farm and "McRae" farms. Rick was very family and community orientated. He believed in giving back to his beloved community. He volunteered for Brandon Youth Hockey, South End Community Centre, Brandon Wheat Kings, Brandon Cloverleafs, Brandon Kiwanis Club, Central United Church, Brandon Retriever Club, Westbran Stadium, Andrews Field and Friends of Bluebirds. Rick met his wife, Simone (Lischka) in high school, and they were married 46 years. He was first and foremost a family man. He was immensely proud of his children and all of their accomplishments. The happiest days of his life were the births of each and every grandchild. His love went to a whole new level and he always showed keen interest in their lives. Rick is survived by his loving wife Simone; son Rick Jr. (Leanne), Jackson and Abby; son Bob (Susan), Taylor, Megan and Brett; son Jason (Karly), Ellie and Bodie; daughter Dayna Persichetti (Adam), Emma and Gianna. Mother Lil, brother Bill (Joan), sister Nancy Teney (Doug), Uncle Tom Hean (Jean), Aunt Yvette Richard, brothers-in-law David Lischka (Bev), Don (Wendy), sisters-in-law Irene Dillabough (Wayne) and Jo Ann Johnson (Jim), numerous nieces and nephews, many cousins near and dear. Rick was predeceased by his father Ollie Bill, paternal and maternal grandparents and numerous Aunts and Uncles. Rick was a huge center of our family and he will be missed immensely. A Celebration of Rick's Life was held at Central United Church on March 9, 2013 with Rev. Shannon McCarthy officiating. Interment will take place at the Deloraine Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Rick may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care" or "Brandon RHA Cancer Services," 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
