Obituary of Barbara Hildebrand

HILDEBRAND: Barbara Dalyce Hildebrand (née Onischuk), formerly Bandor, was born in Gladstone, MB on the 24th of August 1958 to parents Michael and Mabel Onischuk. She lived most of her life in Brandon, MB where she died on November 29, 2020. She is survived by her three children: Dalyce (Matthew) Gay, John Michael (Sara Cornett) and Karleigh Bandor and her grandchildren: Gordie (Dalyce) and Eileigh (JM).Barb grew up in Portage la Prairie where she crafted her skills as a hairstylist. This allowed her to run a home-based salon in Winnipeg, MB while her children were young so that she could focus on being a mum. While living in Winnipeg Barb was a very active member of the community, particularly the local community club where her children played sports. In the winter months, she could be found close to the penalty box wearing a fur coat and cheering loudly. When not in the stands she was busy behind the scenes organizing fundraising events, working at the rink, managing the canteen, creating the Richmond Kings Community Centre annual coupon book, chaperoning hockey trips and planning various social events. Barb taught line dancing in the little free time she had left. She also enjoyed being a host mum as part of the Billet Family Program. She later ran a successful mobile hairdressing business after permanently relocating to Brandon. Barb had a passion for cooking and baking and was well known for her cinnamon buns, garlic twists, fresh baked bread and Christmas dainties, and sharing them with those around her. Not to mention fetching a pretty penny at school bake sales and other fundraisers. In more recent years Barb lived and breathed for her grandchildren. She would often spend days or weeks searching for just the right toy for a birthday gift, always had a sucker or other candy in her pocket and would assist with babysitting as she was able. She will be greatly missed by her family and anyone else that had the pleasure of getting to know her. A loving mother to her own children and their many friends who would affectionately refer to her as “Mumma B” as “the door is always open”.

There will be no memorial service as the family has chosen to have a private interment for Barb.
