I just happened to notice this tribute page, so I am sorry for the late condolences. I met Mark when I took a Chemistry degree at BU in 1974-77.I was a marker in the Department so we became good friends. We had many interests in common so had many good conversations. I went in to teaching, as did Mark and we did touch base on occasion over the years. He was a good person who will be missed.

I first met Mark in or about 2003 at St. Andrews Airport when he was Commanding Officer of the Flying Scholarship Course.
After speaking to him both of us had similar paths- recipients of a Flying and Glider Scholarship in addition to being an Officer of an Air Cadet Squadron.
Approximately 15 years later we met again as we were both members of the Singles Club- Adventures for Successful Singles.
Enjoyed speaking to him and will miss our talks at Billiards.
Sadly he couldn't drive and came to Billiards by Handy Transit. When asked if needed a ride him he declined as he had a ride.
Clear blue skies and tailwinds my friend. Keep the blue sky up. RIP. Gerry Prystai

I will pass my condolences onto Mr. Delmage's family, and friends. I knew the man as an educator of many students and more importantly as a friend, mentor, and boarding master. His heart was large and loving. He always had this little smile when harmless jokes were played before stepping in, to tame the student body. Mark used to do chemistry shows around Halloween for the student body. I haven't thought about those times in years. As a fellow scientist (biologist), I assure you I will miss the chemist. As a former student, I assure you I will miss a coach and mentor. As a human being, I assure you I will miss my friend.

I was a student of Mr. Delmage's at SJR. I was never very good at chemistry, but Mr. Delmage was always patient with me and his passion for teaching and his personal kindness towards students means that I will always remember my high-school chemistry classes with fondness. I know he will be very much missed by all his former students. Condolences to his family and friends.

Some of the fondest memories of my time at SJR were made sitting Mr. Delmage's chemistry class. He was the first person to introduce me to the subject, and his way of being immediately commanded my attention. To call him an interesting man would hardly be fair to the dictionary definition. He was an eccentric, the type of man who you might only get a glimpse of by watching a mad scientist in a movie. He was obviously brilliant, and had worked for many years as an analytical chemist, however this was not what made him so meaningful as a teacher. He was a lovable character, often referring to himself as "The Grand Pooba" in lab protocols, and telling animated stories to explain physical concepts. Brandon, where he lived, was a far drive to make very often, and it was my understanding that he often stayed at the school during the week. While in student government, I would often see Mr. Delmage strolling the school corridors in the evening wearing his nightcap and pyjamas as if he was a character out of a Charles Dickens story. If you happened to show up late to Mr. Delmage's class, he would halt everything, and bound towards the door reciting the opening lines of Hamlet, to which you must have participated by reciting Bernardo's opening lines: "Long live the King" and "He", if you were to want access. The sequence ended with the Delmage original: "You've come most late upon your hour". This could happen multiple times a class, but it never got old and I even find it funny as I write this today. Mr. Delmage recited wonderful notes. His dictation of the class notes were always met with a hushed disbelief from the entire class when he would pick up on the exact word where the bell had stopped him short in our previous session. He had an incredible command of his subject, and was inspiring in his love of chemistry. I loved Mr. Delmage a great deal and for all these reasons he will be dearly missed. My condolences to his family and friends, but please know that he lives on in these memories.

My condolences to all Mark's family and friends. Mark and I worked side by side teaching chemistry at St. John's-Ravenscourt for nearly 30 years, sharing workspace, ideas, and a love of science. We attended many chemistry workshops together. I think many former staff will fondly remember him sharing his expertise at a wine tasting party my wife and I hosted. A respected colleague and a good friend. I shall miss him.

Mark was an outstanding teacher and one of my children’s favourites. As a colleague he was simply the best; he supported everything that he thought would be good for students and questioned anything that might not be. Early in my career I would bump into him in the halls at 2 in the morning, and he would scare me with a military loud “Who goes there!”. He was my friend, my colleague and a great supporter of my work with students. He will be missed, but he would be proud to know he made a huge difference in the lives of his kids and his friends and family. An honour to have worked with him!

I met Mark a few years ago through a social cards and games group. He taught me how to play Mexican Train and was always a delight to have at your table. He was such a well mannered, gentlemanly player, so it was always fun when someone played in a spot he wanted. Out would come "you scoundrel" or some other interestingly classic Mark saying. Rest in peace and keep shining your light in heaven.

It was with great sadness that I learned Mark’s passing. I first met Mark as a young air cadet in Brandon in 1979. Mark had a significant impact on my life as a young person, in several ways. Like many teenagers in #82 Brandon Squadron, he was my commanding officer, who pushed me to do my best and achieve. I was lucky enough to get a glider and power pilot’s license through that program- many thanks owed to him, and it is through his influence that I still give glider familiarization flights to young air cadets to this day. During his days as a lab instructor at Brandon University, Mark also served as a mentor as I completed many science fair projects in junior and senior high school. Later, when Mark was teaching chemistry at St. John’s-Ravenscourt school in Winnipeg, my new wife Jeannie got her first full-time teaching job there. We all lived in the boarding part of he school for a few years, and then Mark bought a house and rented it to us at a very favourable rate. Later he moved in with us for a short period of time before we moved to Burnaby, BC. Mark showed me kindness and generosity at many points in his life and I will truly miss him. Per ardua ad astra.

I met Mark in 1970 when we were first-year cadets at Royal Roads Military College in Victoria. He was extremely proud of his Air Cadet accomplishments as well as being a certified Projectionist. We cadets enjoyed many a movie with Mark running the projector. He also loved to fly. In summer 1972, after visiting Mark in Brandon, he rented a Piper Cherokee and flew me and a colleague back to Portage la Prairie where we were undergoing Air Force training. Mark was a kind and generous individual and I am grateful to have known him.

Hello Bob, I was the fourth person on that flight to Portage in 1972 being a lifelong friend of Mark's and a member of 82 RCACS at the time, and thus invited along for company on the return trip. Mark pointed me in the direction of Royal Roads in 1974 and the lifelong military career that followed for which I will always be grateful. I'm delighted to see remembrances from his first-year classmates at RRMC and to learn that they are yet another group who held him in high regard. TDV

I only knew Mark for the year that we were classmates at Royal Roads ('70/'71) where we learned to "drive the bod", iron everything including running shoe laces, use Right Guard cans as blow torches to remove all excess wool so that it wouldn't attract fraust (lint to the uninitiated) and a host of other things. I remember Mark's smile and good humour, one example being even after he put his two white wool turtleneck sweaters into the dryer on high heat, and had them emerge somewhat smaller (not quite Barbie Doll size, but close), and other military college high jinks. Mark's dedication to teaching and mentoring others at St. John's Ravenscourt, the Evans Theatre and particularly the Air Cadet movement obviously left a powerful mark on all of us who had the priviledge to know him. Thanks for these memories, Mark, and thanks to your family for sharing you with us. You have left our midst too soon. God Speed.

We are very saddened to say that Mark Delmage, our friend, fellow volunteer, teacher, pilot, mentor and familiar face of the Evans Theatre, passed away.
Mark was part of the Brandon Film Festival family for nearly 50 years and led from the front, taught by the side, and pushed us from behind. Both as a teacher at St Johns Ravenscourt and as a leader in the 82nd Air Squadron (Air Cadets), he was dedicated to making better men and women of the youth in his charge. He had no children of his own but there are many who have been taught as if they were.
Mark was an extremely dedicated projectionist, and while his heart beat with the tempo of the old film projectors, he embraced the new technology. He was key to helping the Evans enter the new digital era.
We miss him greatly, and when there is time in the future for us to get together safely and remember him, we will.
A tribute memorial movie in Mark’s honour will be arranged at the Evans theatre at a future date.

Mark was a friend and mentor to the Cochrane brothers Fred and Ken. His guidance to us in our pursuit to achieve our goals to be private pilots was instrumental among all the other fun, gliders, rockets , movies and Friday nights at the armories. Found some pictures of Mark in late 70's / early 80's. Many good memories and friendships made.

Dear Doreen, Mickey and Heather,
A dear friend for as long as I can remember, Mark was also for me a guide and inspiration who put me on my life's path. There will be many of the hundreds if not thousands of young men and women whom he served in the air cadet movement and as an educator who will say the same. Truly, the theme of his life was the betterment of others. You may be profoundly proud of your son and brother. As for me, I am, and always will be, deeply grateful for his friendship. May the knowledge that so many hold him and you in our thoughts be a source of solace as we join you in mourning his loss. As ever, Jim Selbie.

Our condolences to the family of Mark. Mark was a pivotal figure in my life and that of my brother Douglas Howell. He was our commanding leader at #82 Air Cadet Squadron in Brandon. The support and experiences we had by being involved with Cadets and under Mark's dedicated leadership helped us grow to be the adults we are now. During my term in Cadets #82 enjoyed claims to fame for being top Squadron in Manitoba and ranked high in standings overall in Canada. The Drill Team was my passion. Thank you Mark for you dedication and support to those involved with #82 Brandon. Be at peace. Cathy Howell and Doug Howell
