Obituary of Marjorie Shymensky

Marjorie Ann Shymensky

June 6, 1940 - June 16, 2021

Marjorie Ann Shymensky passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the age of 81.

Marjorie was born on June 6, 1940 to Ann and Stanley Sturko. She was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. During her school years, she attended Fleming Elementary School, junior years she attended Earl Oxford Middle School then graduated at PEI Collegiate in Brandon, Manitoba. Marjorie was employed with Perth’s Drycleaning.

On June 3 of 1961, Marjorie and Mike got married at the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church in Brandon, Manitoba. Marj and Mike were blessed with three children; Jo-Ann, Tim and Jamie.

During Marjorie and Mike’s marriage, she relocated to the Brandon Regional Health Authority where she spent 39 years of service in Dietary. Marjorie was a very hard worker and always took pride in everything did.

She retired at the age of 70. Nonetheless, retiring did not slow her down!  Being the determined go-getter she was, she started volunteering at the Hospital and Town Centre.  She also spent her free time gardening, baking, and making her famous perogies, cabbage rolls and raspberry jam from her raspberry bushes. She also enjoyed the odd trip to the casino. Everyone who knew Marjorie, knows that she always had a smile on her face. No matter the situation, she would lighten the mood with her contagious laugh and kind heart. Most importantly, she cherished every moment she spent with her family and friends and especially all of her grandchildren.

Marjorie enjoyed many visits from her nieces and nephews.  She grew a close relationship with Mike's(husband) extended family (Kshymensky's, Tataryn's) there was never a dull moment when everyone got together for special occasions.

Marjorie’s strength throughout her battles with cancer was indescribable. There was not a single complaint and she always tried to have a positive outlook no matter what kind of hand she was dealt. During these trying times, her true colours shone through. She always worried more about others than she did herself.

Marjorie is survived by her children; Jo-Ann Kshymensky, Jamie Kshymensky (Lindy Mayes), Angela Kshymensky (Daughter-in-law); her grandchildren; Mike (Josie) Kshymensky, TJ Kshymensky (Rob Leiper) and Trisha Kshymensky; her great-grandchildren; Izzy, Isaac and Wyatt.
