LANCASTER: Lillian Marie (Muir) Lancaster

Sept 25, 1927 - June 25, 2021

Marie Lancaster was born in Brandon, MB to Effie Ann and David Scott Muir on Sept. 25, 1927.  She was the youngest of three children and the sister to Malcom (Marie) and Donald (Georgie).  Marie was raised on the family farm near Margaret, MB and attended Pinkham and Margaret schools and later at the Brandon Business College where she trained to be a secretary.  Her first job was in the office of McGavin’s Bread Company.  On Sept. 20, 1952, Marie married George Lancaster in the Kings United Church in Margaret.  They resided in Shilo, MB until December, 1964 when they purchased a home on Queens Crescent in Brandon, one of the first houses in what was then a new development.  She raised three children in that home:  David, Scott and Lori and provided a world full of love, support and encouragement that has surrounded us all our lives.

Marie was active in the Girl Guide community and loved to work with the girls, providing something that many of them would never experience otherwise.  She served many roles during these years, ultimately filling a Regional Commissioner position.  She was also an active golfer and loved her weekly outings with the Nine Holer’s group at the Wheat City course.  Other interests included gardening, walking, and coffee with friends.  Through her whole life she was a member of the United Church and proudly served within the Central United Church UCW (unit 5).  Marie especially enjoyed working as a ‘funeral tea lady’ and all the fellowship and comradery that came with that group.  Mom was an active member of P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter R and was proud of all their good work.  She was also the chef/hostess of many Robbie Burns dinners amongst friends.

Marie is survived by her children, David (Mona), Scott (Kathy) and Lori; grandchildren, Geordie (Amanda), Jeremy (Kiersten), Zachary (Amber), Kaitlyn, Danielle, Nicole, Matthew, Brooklyn, Taylor (Justin) and Riley (Virginia) and three great-grandchildren, Camdyn, Cohen and Roman.  She was preceded by her parents; her husband, George; brothers Malcolm (Marie), Donald (Georgie), and sister-in-law, Annis Thompson.

A Celebration of Marie’s Life will be held at Central United Church on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug Craig officiating.
