Obituary of Edith Blaine

BLAINE: Edith Marie Blaine (née De’Ell) passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the age of 71 years. Edie was predeceased by her husband, Wes, on April 25, 2021. Edie will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her daughter Laura Lawrence (Bob); grandsons: Jesse, Cody and Tanner; her son Wes Blaine; granddaughter Violet; stepson Wes Lauder (Lolitta) and daughter Amanda. Edie will also be missed by her siblings: Judy (James); Joan (Darren); Brenda (Steven); Doreen and brother David.

Edie was predeceased by her parents George and Georgina De’Ell. Edie was born and raised in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Edie pursued further education and travelled to Brandon, Manitoba. Edie worked in health care as a nurses’ aid and LPN before graduating from the Brandon General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Edie was proud and truly honoured to be an RN. Edie was a great example of someone who believed in lifelong learning, both personally and professionally.

Edie was kind, caring, gentle, unselfish and strong. Edie’s ability for forgiveness and tolerance was unlike any other. She had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up a room. Family was the most important to Edie.  Edie’s greatest joy in the world was her grandchildren. Edie loved to sing, dance and laugh. She had a great sense of humour. Edie enjoyed fishing, gardening, time spent with family at the lake. Edie enjoyed the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. Edie was the designer behind the first Westman Dreams for Kids Parade floats. She had a great imagination, and a special way of making them come alive.

A private family graveside service was held at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Edie may be made to Westman Dreams for Kids, 404-18^th St. N., Brandon, MB R7A 7P3 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
