Obituary of Shirley Ann Critchlow
CRITCHLOW: Shirley Ann. On Monday, August 29, 2022, surrounded by her loving children, mom entered into eternal rest in Palliative Care at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon at the age of 79. Left to cherish her memory is her son Daryl (Belinda) Critchlow and Pamela (Sue) Critchlow. Grandma Shirley will be remembered by April-Dawn (Scott), Kaiten (Brittany), Chase (Kayla), and Dillen. Shirley was a proud great-grandmother to Dominick, Aria, Lincoln, Elena, Averly, and Parker. Reunited with her husband Garnet, infant daughter Cheryl-Lynn, grandson Ethan, parents Louis Barrault, Josephine and Arthur Norfield, brother James Barrault, sister Faye Archer, sister-in-law, Bev Towle, and brothers-in-law Keith Towle and Jim Archer. Survived by her sister Bev (Klaus) Assenmacher, sister-in-law Marlene Barrault, and brother-in-law Glen (Donna) Critchlow. Shirley leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Mom was born November 15, 1942 in Portage. She attended school in Portage. While working for the Co-op, mom met Garnet Critchlow. They went out for an evening of dancing, and the rest is history. Mom and Dad married January 26, 1963. Following their marriage, they began to operate their own businesses, Bridge Road Service (Portage), One and Four Highway Restaurant (Portage), Yellow Head Esso (Gladstone), Westway Inn Motel (Neepawa), and Chicken Chef (Russell). Following their retirement from Chicken Chef in 1993, mom and dad moved to Brandon. In 1999, they decided to become snowbirds where they spent the long Manitoba winters in Southern Comfort, Texas, where they enjoyed golfing and dancing. Mom’s favourite memories were times spent with the friends she met, and she continued these relationships through to her final days. Following her time as a snowbird in Texas, Shirley spent time traveling with the Fugitives band. Shirley was a dedicated member of the Legion Branch #23, Neepawa and the Legion Branch #25, Killarney, and was also a member of the Elk’s Lodge. A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will take place on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 11:30 am – 2:00pm at the Legion Branch #3, 560 13th Street East, Brandon. Please come dressed casually. A private graveside service will follow in Portage-la-Prairie.
“Don’t cry because I’m gone. Smile because I was here. And when you feel alone, think of all the happy times we had spent together.”
