Obituary of Patricia MacLennan
MACLENNAN: The family of Patricia MacLennan, late of Rotary Villas, sadly announces her passing on Thursday, December 22nd, 2022. We like to think that she's rejoined Dad and they are happily toasting lives very well lived. Mom was born in Brandon in 1939 to Hugh and Kathleen (née Craig) Allen and grew up a proud "east-ender". She graduated from Brandon Collegiate Institute (now New Era) and went on to attain her Bachelor of Teaching and her Bachelor of Education at Brandon University. She ran a nursery school from her basement for several years and later taught primary grades for many years at different schools. We all loved the way that Mom lit up when around children, often getting down on the ground to join in their games.
Mom married Robert Bass and together they welcomed two daughters, Heather and Elyssa. After Bob's passing in 1971, she met and married the 2nd love of her life Roderick MacLennan and added his children, Brad and Nancy, to her family. While most would agree that starting married life with four teenagers isn't for the faint of heart, Mom and Dad did it beautifully, with a great deal of grace and humour. They had over forty happy years together and shared various interests like square dancing, bridge, happy hours with lifelong friends, concerts and theatre. Together they travelled overseas to Scotland and Portugal; took a bus tour hopscotching the Canada, US border and wintered for many years in Victoria. There they formed a community of friends starting a "grapefruit league" where the winner in pool took home all the grapefruit!
Mom and Dad shared an active life in the church with Mom in the choir and Dad organizing White Heather concerts. After she retired from teaching, Mom worked at Dad's store (Narvey's Men's Wear) learning how to sew and alter clothing. She made beautiful wedding
dresses that we wore with pride. She also loved gardening and spent many happy hours in her yard.
Mom will be sorely missed by her children: Brad MacLennan; Heather (Gord) Kaluzniak; Nancy Cameron and Elyssa (Ward) Weisensel. There were 13 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. She will also be missed by her brother Dan Allen (Judy Jung).
Mom was predeceased by her first husband Bob Bass; her parents Hugh and Kay Allen; her brother Craig; sister-in-law Pat Allen; and of course her husband of forty-eight years, Rod.
