Obituary of Lillian Glenn
GLENN: Lillian Eliza Mary Glenn was born on November 10, 1937 to Leah and Ernest Kenward in Hamiota, Manitoba. Lillian passed away with her loving son by her side on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the age of 85 years.
Lillian lived her early years on her parents farm outside of Decker, Manitoba where she developed a love for horses. She attended primary and most of high school in Decker, and finished her Grade 12 at United College in Winnipeg. She then went on to get her Teacher’s Certificate at Winnipeg Teachers Training School in 1956.
Her first teaching position was at a one room school house in Lavinia, MB. During this time she met her future husband, Clifford who was teaching in Decker. They were married in 1957. Throughout their early years of marriage, Lillian and Clifford taught in small towns: Decker, Lavinia, Kenton and Oakner. From 1961-64 Lillian taught at Earl Oxford in Brandon.
Lillian gave birth to Karyn “Kerry” in 1964 in Winnipeg as Clifford was attending the University of Manitoba. The young family relocated to Brandon in 1965, and their son David was born in 1968.
The Glenn’s reflect back on the 1970’s and 80’s as “the good ol’day,” living on Silver Birch Drive by Linden Lanes and enjoying Westridge Community Centre with the other young families of the neighbourhood.
By 1979, Lillian had taken work in an administrative position at the Brandon General Hospital. One of her big projects was the organization, maintenance and expansion of the BGH Foundation. After dedicating 15 years at the hospital, Lillian retired in 1993.
Upon retirement, Lillian enjoyed gardening, book club, bridge club, and dancing. She also became enthralled with creative writing and had poems and a short story published. She also enjoyed travelling adventures to England, Cuba, Turkey, Costa Rica and Central Europe.
Always the social butterfly, Lillian kept in touch with life-long friends and family and made new friends at Rotary Villa, her final residence.
Ever present was her love for everything about horses, especially the Kentucky Derby in May.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Clifford, son David, grandchildren, Marco and Lilia Séguin of Montreal. Lillian is reunited with her parents Leah and Ernest Kenward and her daughter Karyn “Kerry” Glenn Séguin (d. 2000).
