John James (Jack) Rigby

1957-2023

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jack Rigby formerly of New Waterford, N.S. and Flin Flon, M.B. on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at the age of 65 years.

Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on September 8, 1957 he was the son of the late Vincent and Veronica (Gardiner) Rigby.

He left C.B. in 1974 to work for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Corp., where he was employed until his retirement.

Jack was very active throughout his life. He loved to travel, and playing baseball, curling, arm wrestling, fishing, hunting and especially darts.

On June 30, 1990, Jack married Jeannette Trotz.

He spent most of his summers in Jan Lake, Sask., camping, boating and fishing with his wife and children and his two buddies, his dogs Lola and Precious. He made many trips home to Cape Breton, especially in May because of Lobster season. He loved sitting around the kitchen table with family and friends joking and laughing and sharing memories with a cup of tea or coffee and a good game of cards and cribbage.  Jack was president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 73 from 2005 to 2007.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years Jeannette (Trotz) Rigby; children, BJ of Denare Beach, SK, Doug of Humbolt, SK and Brittany (Mario) Bastien of Brandon, MB; grandsons, Xavier and Alexander of Humbolt, SK; sister, Mary Ann (Wilfred) Hurley New Waterford, NS; niece, Krystal Hurley of New Waterford, NS; nephew, Kevin Hurley of Kelowona, BC; grand-niece, Vayda Hurley of New Waterford, NS; mother-in-law, Mary Trotz of Gilbert Plains, MB; sister-in-law, Leona (Kim) Day of Winnipeg, MB; brother-in-law, John (Thelma) Trotz of Flin Flon, MB and nephew, John-Nicolas Trotz of Toronto, ON.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Veronica; father-in-law, Nick Trotz and brothers-in-law, Michael Trotz and Morris Trotz.

Cremation has taken place and a burial will take place at a later date.
