Obituary of Anne McIntosh

Anne McIntosh

1924-2023

On April 23, 2023 Anne McIntosh, wife of the late Ellwood McIntosh, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 at the Valleyview Care Home in Brandon, MB.

Anne is survived by her brother, Henry (Alice) Polk, her sister, Stella Undershute, her three children; Donna (Barry) Cullen, Bob McIntosh, Dennis (Sharry) McIntosh; her grandchildren, Angie (Garry) Martin, Ryan (Kadian) McIntosh, Lindsay (Dave) Gibson, Samantha (Leland) Kirton, Kurtis (Tiffany) Cullen, great grandchildren Aria and Colten Gibson, Brooklyn Kirton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Anne was born in Dunrea, MB to John and Victoria (Lewicka) Palahnuk.  She was one of eleven children.  When her father who worked for the CPR, took a new position the family moved to Virden, MB. 

During her late teen and early adult years Anne worked at a variety of jobs in the Virden area.  She was a waitress at a couple of local restaurants, did housekeeping for a farming family, and during WWII years worked at the Flight Training School.   It was at the Flight Training School where Anne met Ellwood.    They were married in 1949 and for a while lived with Ellwood's parents on their farm.  Later, they settled on Ellwood's farmland between the villages of Scarth and Woodnorth and for a short time lived in a granary while their house was being built.

Anne had a great love of nature.   She very much enjoyed the birds, butterflies, and flowers as well as her walks along the creek in the pasture.  She spent many hours tending her two large and beautiful flower gardens.   Although she loved nature, she was not very fond of the gophers, moles, raccoons, and skunks that occasionally paid visits to her gardens.  Anne dabbled in a variety of hobbies, including painting and other forms of visual art.   She was an avid collector of many things and had a wide assortment of collections ranging from stamps and coins to bird feathers and rocks.   Music was always a big part of Anne's life.  Her home was always filled with songs on the radio or from her record collection.   She taught herself to play the piano and electric organ and tried the guitar and harmonica.  Anne's religious faith was very strong and it was an important part of her daily life.

The family is very grateful to the kind staff at Valleyview who cared for Anne during her final years.  

A service to say goodbye to Anne will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8^th Street, Brandon, on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.   It was Anne's request that those who might want to give tokens of remembrance to make donations to Manitoba Possible (originally founded in 1950 as the Society for Crippled Children), whose address is 1857 Notre Dame Ave, Wpg, MB, R3E 3E7 or by visiting their website at  www.manitobapossible.ca.
