Obituary of Paul Wedderburn
With great sadness, we the family, announce the passing of Paul John Wedderburn of Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 76 years. Paul passed away suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at St. Boniface Hospital with his brother Bruce (Jeffrey) by his side.
Paul was born on October 17, 1946 in Rivers, MB to John and Doreen Wedderburn. He is the older brother to Bruce. Paul attended Spring Valley School, then Bradwardine and later Rivers where he completed his education. During the summer after completing his grade 9 year, Paul went to work for relatives in Brunkild, MB. After that summer, Paul came home and started to work with his father John on the family farm. It was in the 1960’s that they began their dairy operation, starting with shipping cream then later milk. In July 1969, Paul married Sharon McBurney of Hartney, MB. Together they raised their two boys, Donald and Shawn. Life was busy with milking cows twice daily, grain farming and haying. Fun times consisted of going to Oak Lake on Sundays for family picnics, big family gatherings during holidays and playing cards with neighbours and friends. By 1999, Paul and Sharon decided to retire. The cows and dairy quota were sold and the land was rented out to relatives. Paul and Sharon were one of the first couples to move into Monterey Estates in Brandon, MB.
Over the years, Paul continued to be a social butterfly, going out for coffee or playing cards with friends and neighbours. Paul talked to his brother Bruce daily and visited his son Shawn when he was in Brandon. Paul also enjoyed visiting his son Don and daughter-in-law Shelley and his grandchildren Katie, Travis and Bryce. He loved riding his scooter all over the park and surrounding area visiting with all he met. In the fall of 2022, Sharon went into personal care at Hillcrest. Paul visited at Sharon almost daily, bringing her books and treats. He enjoyed “teasing” the nurses, aides, and other staff and residents. Paul will be missed by all who knew him, for his kind gentle manner, his friendly personality, and funny sense of humor.
Everyone is welcome to attend the graveside service at Tarbolton Cemetery, near Bradwardine, MB on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with luncheon to follow at the Monterey Estates Rec Centre, Brandon, MB at 1:00 p.m.
