Alexander McNeil Kirkpatrick

Alexander McNeil (Neil) Kirkpatrick passed away peacefully at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the age of 88. Neil was born on October 11, 1934 in Brandon, MB and grew up on the family farm with his parents Cliff and Blanche, and his sister Ina.

After high school Neil attended the University of Manitoba earning an Agriculture Diploma.

In 1955, he married Leona Hodson from Lenore, MB. They lived on the home farm where they raised three children. Neil was a farmer his entire life, growing up working side by side with his father and later with his sons. He was very proud to be the 4th generation on a farm that has been in the family for over 125 years.

Neil was very active in the community, volunteering many hours at the Kemnay Community Centre. He served on several boards including UGG, KAP and the Brandon Sno-Goer’s Club and was an active member of the Pioneer Power & Equipment Club for many years.

In his retirement years he helped organize a golf group and served as President.

Neil enjoyed playing hockey when he was younger, curled for many years and loved music his entire life. He taught himself to play the drums and played with several groups for many dances over the years. He enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, playing cards and socializing with many friends. He and Leona went on several trips with friends and family including to Nova Scotia, Florida, Texas as well as the Panama Canal and Alaskan cruises.

As Neil slowed down from working on the farm he found a new passion in woodworking which included making furniture items, games and beautiful intarsia pieces.

Neil and Leona enjoyed socializing and attended many community functions. They watched their grandchildren and great nieces and nephews at many sporting events and 4-H achievements. Neil especially enjoyed music recitals and band concerts.

Neil is survived by his sister, Ina Franks, sisters in law, Gwen Harris and Joan Hodson, children; Colin (Arlene), Brad (Noreen) and Sandi (Brian) Nichol, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and their children.

He was predeceased by his wife, Leona in October 2017, sister in law, Norma Hodson, brothers in law; Ivan Franks, Innes Hodson, Jim Wintringham, Henry Harris and nephew, Victor Harris.
