Donald McCormick

1934-2023

Donald McCormick, beloved uncle, passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Place on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

Don was born in Brandon, Manitoba on February 3, 1934. He was the youngest son of Frank and Hannah McCormick. He received his education in Brandon, MB. In the early 50’s, Don was employed with Gillis and Warren as an inventory taker and Shoe Machinist helper. He was later employed with Scott Fruit Ltd. and then Crane Ltd. until 1958. In 1959, the family moved to Carroll, Manitoba to operate a family grocery store, Don’s Grocery and Carroll Post Office and mail route for 37 years. After retiring, Don moved to Brandon in 1997. Don enjoyed playing guitar and singing with niece Beth. He also enjoyed woodworking and photo developing on the computer.

In February of 2018, due to illness Don moved to Hillcrest Place. Niece Beth was his designated caregiver.

 Don was predeceased by his eldest sister, Eva who died in infancy; father, Frank McCormick in 1958; mother, Hannah in 1974; brother, Ernest in 1984; sister, Bertha (Kay) Beattie in 1985; sister, Elsie Aelick in 1994 and niece, Shirley Edwards in 2023.

Left to mourn Don’s passing are his niece, Beth Aelick of Brandon, MB; great nieces and nephews: Paul Golphy (Mary Lynne) of Davidson, SK, Diane Veltkamp (Steve) of Weeks, SK, Jane Harrington (Brad) of Buckley, WA, USA, Russ Edwards of Melfort, SK; Curtis Edwards (Shelley) of Nipawin, SK and their families.

Our uncle was always there in time of need with an open heart. He wore his heart on his sleeve. May his spirit live on in peace.

A graveside service will be held at the Brandon Cemetery on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. A formal procession will depart from Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332 8th Street, at 2:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Don may be made to the Parkinson Canada, #7 -414 Westmount Dr. Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1P2 or to a charity of choice.
