Hal also taught at Gypsumville high school, north of Lundar in 1955. I was one of his students and consider him to be the most memorable teacher I ever had. I have often marvelled since how he could have been so knowledgeable as to teach grades 9,10 and 11 every subject including Latin, for he was not only the principal but the only teacher. He also coached our softball team to win the Interlake District ball tournament. He was admired throughout the community for his involvement in the skating rink, high school dance club and the theatre club. I talked to him recently on the phone and he asked if I had any news about my classmates from 1955. He asked, using the first and last names of every one of them. Amazing memory. I am sorry to see this chapter close. My sincere condolences Barbara. Farewell Hal.

Dear Barbara and family,
My most sincere condolences to you all in the loss of this wonderful man. Getting to visit with Hall and Barbara would be a highlight in my day. I can still hear him laugh and his stories of days past or of his family, of which he was so proud, were always interesting and enjoyed.
Rest in peace, Hall

Dear Barb and family,
I was so sorry to learn of Hal's passing and I am sending love and blessings in your loss. Hal was always ready for a friendly chat and he and Paul were able to " talk education ". Hal was among the first to welcome us to Rivers and he and you, Barb, made us feel right at home in your small town. Hal will be missed by the many ,many lives he touched not only as an educator, but in all his community endeavours.
Blessings,
Jean Curtis

Our deepest condolences to Hal's family at this time. He will be truly missed. We remember that he had beautiful, large cursive hand writing, and he said that he re-taught himself to write when he realized that he was insisting on neat and legible handwriting for his students, when his own was hardly that! He was serious about setting a good example in everything he did, we think.
