Iner Scherbatiuk

1937-2024

Dad passed away peacefully at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 with his family by his side.

Iner was born on March 11, 1937 in Kohanivka, Ukraine. Iner came to Canada with his family in October of 1938 via the Cunard White Line Steamship to Montreal and then to Kuroki, Saskatchewan by CN train.

Iner attended school starting at Sunderland #1 and #2 and finishing at Wadena High School.  He was a farmer all his working life and retired at 70 years old.

One of Iner's fondest memories was meeting his wonderful wife, Leona. Iner was married in 1974 to Leona Radwanski. Their meeting was a result of Iner putting a personal ad in the Western Producer. Iner and Leona grew their family on their farm just outside of Hendon, Saskatchewan. He was very proud of his daughters and their families and would always talk to others about them.

He resided in Wadena, Saskatchewan  before moving to Kin Village in Brandon, Manitoba in July of 2022.

Iner was very strong in his faith in Jesus and loved sharing it with others.

He was very interested in tractors, growing things from crops of grain to vegetables in the gardens.  Iner loved old cars, books, history and his favorite sports, hockey and football.

Iner is survived by his two daughters, Stefanie Head (Caleb) and Katrina Buydens (Ryan); grandchildren: Josiah, Nathan and Janaya Head and Jordan and Logan Buydens; sister, Anne Pleskach (Stan); brother, Bill Scherbatiuk (Stella) and many nieces and nephews.

Iner was predeceased by his wife, Leona Scherbatiuk; parents, Stephen and Malania Scherbatiuk and brothers, Andrew, Tony and Alec Scherbatiuk.

A time of visitation will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332 8th Street, Brandon, MB on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the same location on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.

Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, 2300 Yonge St., Suite 1200, Box 2414, Toronto, ON, M4P 1E4 in Dad’s memory.
