Having been away in February, I just learned of Eric’s death this week.
I returned to Brandon from Alberta in about 1972 to continue a career in Broadcasting and quickly became acquainted with Eric
and also Bill Stadnyk whose posting appears elsewhere here. To say that Eric was dedicated to his job would be an understatement.
As noted elsewhere, he took every opportunity to educate others on the importance of weather, weather observation and weather reporting. He taught me not to ever "editorialize" when it came to weather reporting because (as he said) a farmer on one side of the road may want rain and his neighbour might want three days of sunshine. He did not believe in the "seven day forecast" and explained to us why (as broadcasters) we shouldn’t either! Through the local media, he kept this region well informed and I can tell you he was sorely missed when his voice was no longer heard on the air! When it came to weather reporting, our credibility as a radio station came directly through Eric Stanzeleit. To Eric’s immediate and extended family, I offer my sincere condolences and trust that the memories of the lives you all shared with him will carry forward.
