Obituary of Alistair William Wilson

Alistair Wilson

Alistair William Wilson, of Brandon, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on the 9th of May, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born on the 23rd of November 1947, Alistair’s life was marked by hard work, love, and a deep connection to his Scottish roots.

Alistair grew up in Dornoch, Scotland. He attended Dornoch Academy, Golspie Tech, and Craibstone College, where he obtained a certificate in agriculture. Alistair met Audrey Mackay, the love of his life, and they were married for an incredible 53 years. Settling into life on a cattle and sheep farm in Strathnaver, Alistair and Audrey welcomed two sons, Richard and Allan, who were the pride of their lives. Alistair’s dedication to his family was unwavering.

In 1989, Alistair immigrated to Canada with his young family, seeking new opportunities. They settled on a livestock farm in Deleau, Manitoba, where Alistair continued his lifelong passion for farming. Later, together with partners Dean and Dianna Fraser, Alistair built a Sunflower Seed cleaning plant and spent many enjoyable hours perfecting the process.

Retirement allowed him to explore his many talents. Already an accomplished bagpiper, Alistair taught himself to play the accordion and enjoyed playing Scottish music with many friends. He loved being on the water, sailing on the boat he built by hand.

Alistair was a true gentleman, hugely talented in many ways, yet quietly modest about all he achieved. He was known for his ever-present whistling, infectious smile, and a laugh bubbling just below the surface.

Alistair is predeceased by his father William and mother Sheila. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Audrey, his sons, Richard and Allan, his daughters-in-law Marnie and Kimberly, his beloved grandchildren, Fiona, Callum, Holden, and Connor. He also leaves his sisters Gail and Hazel and their families, cousins Jane and Angela, and many friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Alistair’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 339-12th Street on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, “Westman Cancer Care”, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or to The Souris Health Centre, 155 Brindle Ave, Souris, MB, R0K 2C0.
