Obituary of John Goran

John Randy Goran

John Randy Goran was born on January 1, 1952, in Dauphin, MB, and peacefully passed away on May 15, 2024, in Brandon, MB with his children by his side.

John attended school in both Winnipeg and Dauphin.  As a child John played many sports and had lots of success playing in provincial and national championships for baseball as a pitcher.  He later added golf and hockey to his repertoire of athletic talents.

As he got older he worked for the Highways department, Dauphin Golf Course, and later in his career as a teacher, vice principal, and school principal.

He was heavily involved in sports and played junior hockey and university level hockey on the championship winning Brandon Bobcats Hockey teams.  His university hockey teams were later inducted to the university hall of fame and John was a first team all-star.  He continued to play and coach hockey at the senior level with the Ste. Rose Royals with his brother Danny.  One fond memory they shared was playing one game with 6 skaters and a pulled goalie for the entire 3rd period of a game, dominating the opposing team and easily winning the game.

Later in life John was known for his love of golf, spending countless hours on the course perfecting his swing.  He loved a cold beer after a long day on the golf course as well as after completing his many DIY projects.  He loved to cook for others and his Dauphin garden was enjoyed by many.  John and his former spouse Bertha spent many years together creating a wonderful life at the lake with their three children.  Even with many warnings, his son Jay chose to follow in his footsteps and become a school teacher.  The dancing gene must have skipped a generation as his daughter Charise owns and operates a successful dance studio in Dauphin.  He enjoyed many trips to watch his daughter Brie play Division 1 NCAA University volleyball in Rhode Island and enjoyed the fresh seafood while there.  After retiring from teaching John and his partner Jill spent many years together enjoying travelling and exploring new restaurants.

John is survived by his three beloved children, Jay, Charise, and Brie, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. His cherished grandchildren, Parker, Clark, Lennex, Kennedy, Vaughn and Micha held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in their accomplishments and growth.  John is also survived by his sister Brenda Goran, her partner Randy, their son Scott, and his brother Danny’s children Jeff and Bethany.

John is predeceased by his mother Gloria, his father John, his brother Danny, and his former spouse Bertha.

He will be remembered for his passion for golf, his devotion to his family, his teaching work in both Ste. Rose and Dauphin and his coaching of hockey and baseball. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him dearly.

John requested a small family celebration of his life that will take place on a golf course this summer.
