Allan Mott

Obituary of Allan Mott

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas “Allan” Mott.

With family by his side, Allan passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on June 12, 2024 at the age of 60.

Allan was born in Brandon on October 4, 1963 to Joyce and Doug Mott. After starting school in Brandon, Allan moved to Winnipeg with his mom and brother Don. Allan returned to Brandon to complete his Grade twelve while working at Fred’s Dry Cleaners, the family business.

The two boys enjoyed going to Minnedosa Lake in the summers to spend time with their grandparents Fred and May Mott. Allan also enjoyed swimming and playing hockey at the local centres in Winnipeg.

Allan worked at various restaurants in Winnipeg, working his way into the kitchen where his love of cooking began. He would help out at the dry cleaner’s during the summer and eventually took over the business when his dad passed away in 1984. Allan took an evening class at ACC to get his 4th class power engineering certificate. While running the dry cleaners, he would also pick up shifts as a casual power engineer at the ACC East End campus. This proved to be his true calling. He continued to take courses and write exams to acquire his 3rd class power engineering certificate. He worked briefly as a boiler inspector before taking a position at the ACC North Hill campus. Allan loved cars, especially classic hot rods and always Dodge. He was very mechanical and could fix almost anything which came in handy with his car collection. He started drag racing with his Sebring Satellite at Gimli. He then got a Dodge Dart which he raced there as well. He realized his true dream when he purchased another Dodge Dart which was a true drag racing car. He raced that car at Gimli, Neepawa, and Rivers. He managed to win many trophies and some cash payouts over the years. Allan loved to spend time with his best bud Mathew. They enjoyed fishing, boating, ski-doing and working on cars together. Allan also loved going to watch Mathew play soccer and football throughout the years. He was a true fan and we still have the REENS Football sticker on our fridge. The family was privileged to travel to a number of places together including a few trips to Mexico and a special vacation to Disneyworld. Allan is survived by his wife of 35 years Lois, his son Mathew (Adelina), his mother Joyce, and his brother Don. A celebration of Allan’s life will be held at the Victoria Inn Grand Salon A, 3550 Victoria Ave, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Allan can be sent to Paws Crossed Animal Shelter pawscrossed.mb@gmail.com or contact Michelle at 204-922-1994.
