Obituary of Simone Potter

Simone Potter

Simone Potter passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the age of 78 years.

Simone was born January 15, 1946 and grew up in the Deloraine area. She went to school at Deloraine Collegiate.  Simone married her high school sweetheart, Rick Potter in 1967. They were blessed with four children – Rick Jr, Bob, Jason and Dayna.

Simone is best known for her incredible work ethic.   She often had second jobs or “side hustles” to make ends meet. This extra money was never for her, but instead went to her children to make sure they had everything they needed.

Simone was a dedicated nurse’s aide at Fairview Nursing Home for many years and cared deeply for the residents and their families. In 1996, Simone was given her absolute favourite job as grandmother and was affectionately known to her nine grandchildren as “Nana”.

Her grandchildren arrived at a feverish pace and Nana’s refrigerator displayed how proud she was of each and every one of them. She never missed an important event in the grandkid’s lives attending concerts, dance recitals, sporting events, and school activities.

Nana loved each of her family members deeply. She loved being surrounded by her precious grandchildren, and she hosted them at every possible opportunity.  She always made a point of including their friends in the fun, often becoming like a second Nana to them. Her epic New Year’s Eve parties were always something to remember.

Simone’s family were her priority but she also valued her friends, her faith and giving back to her community. She actively volunteered at various events and was very involved with her husband Rick. After his passing, she kept busy by continuing her volunteer work with Central United Church and the Kiwanis Club.

When Simone lost her soul-mate Rick in 2013, she bonded with a group of widows who all adored and appreciated Simone’s humour and companionship. They affectionately referred to themselves as “The Crazies”, often doing things their husbands would shake their heads at if they were still around.

Simone is reunited with her soul-mate, Rick and her son Rick Jr. She will be missed and remembered by her children, Bob (Susan) Potter, Jason (Karly) Potter, Dayna Potter (Chad Parks); and grandchildren Jackson (Liv), Abby, Taylor (Tanner), Megan (Mitch), Brett, Ellie, Bodie, Emma and Gianna.

Simone will be missed by anyone that knew her. Her love, compassion and strong work ethic will live on in all who were blessed to be a part of her life.
