Millicent Mychasiw (nee Sildar) passed away peacefully at Fairview Personal Care Home on Monday, January 13th, 2025, with family at her side. She was born in Rossburn, Manitoba on November the 30th to John and Alice Sidlar in 1934. She had one brother, Orest Sidlar - all predeceased.
Left to mourn her passing are her only child, Theresa (Terry), husband Stan and two granddaughters: Karlyn Leslie, (husband Chad) and Leanne Cwiertnia and her son, Arie.
Millicent received her schooling in Rossburn. She worked hard on her parents' farm performing the various jobs. Her marriage to Mathew Sawchuck resulted in the birth of their only child, Theresa. When Mathew was very sick in Winnipeg trying to recover from Polio, Millicent took a course to become a hairdresser which led to a career of 25 years in Rossburn.
In 1973 Millicent married Steve Mychasiw. What followed were many happy years of fishing, duck hunting, camping with their motor home, and trips abroad. In 1985 they moved to Brandon to be closer to their family, the grandchildren in particular. Their talents at babysitting our kids, as well as others, were invaluable. It was a huge blessing for Terry and Stan, who were busy with their vocations as teachers.
Besides numerous babysitting responsibilities, Millicent loved to cook (which she was proficient in) knit and garden. Her small cabbage rolls and perogies were always a hit with everyone. Making Keesta (which were home made noodles) under Baba's capable hands, was an entire family event. Cooking pickerel cheeks in butter and huge shrimp which was Stan's favourite were relished on special occasions. Millicent was an avid card player who loved to play Canasta and King Pedro with friends. She loved jokes and couldn't resist pranking friends and family alike when the right situation presented itself. She knitted hundreds of pairs mittens for schools around Brandon.
Millicent was predeceased by her husband Steve in 2017. She continued her life at Fairview where she received the care required for her failing health. We would like to sincerely thank every staff member on the 4th floor for their love, care and support shown to her for over ten years of her stay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview Personal Care Home, 1351 13th St. Brandon, MB R7A 4S6.
We love you and will miss you. Rest in peace, Baba!
