Obituary of Ruth Agnes English

ENGLISH: Ruth Agnes English (née Cooper) died October 1, 2013 born May 7, 1919 in Portage la Prairie, MB. Ruth was predeceased by her husband John in 1995, her parents, two sisters and one step daughter. She is survived by step daughter, Constance Gourzis (James) of Portland, Oregon, as well as step grandchildren and great grandchildren in Canada and the United States. Ruth received her education in Portage, achieved a music degree and taught piano until WW II when it was required to have essential employment. Ruth joined the Imperial Bank of Canada and in 1946, transferred to Winnipeg Regional Office of the Bank. She was Personnel Officer of the bank and of the Western Division until her marriage to John in 1963, when she moved to Brandon. She was a devoted member of St. Matthew's Anglican Cathedral and active in the community particularly the Brandon General Hospital Auxiliary. She was honored after 30 years as a volunteer with a Life Membership to the Manitoba Health Auxiliary Association. Ruth had many interests and shared her talents with others enjoying life fully. The Funeral service will be held at St. Matthew's Cathedral, 403 - 13th Street, Brandon, on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with The Rt. Rev. Jim Njegovan officiating. Interment will take place in the Cooper family plot at St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery in Portage. It is Ruth's wish that no floral or monetary donations be given in her memory.
