Obituary of Peter Stobbe
STOBBE: Peter Stobbe, age 90, passed away July 1, 2014 in Fairview Home, Brandon, Manitoba. Peter was born in the village of Waldheim, Molotschna district, South Russia on March 26, 1924 to Henry and Susan Stobbe. He had four brothers and two sisters. At age nine months, his parents and two older brothers immigrated to Canada. They settled in the Harding, and later Alexander district in Manitoba. Peter graduated from Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna, Manitoba. During the war years, he served at the Brandon Mental Hospital as an orderly. He met the love of his life, Mary Neufeld, and they were married July 23, 1949. Their newly married life began on the Stobbe family farm in Alexander, MB. In 1957, they moved their young family to Brandon, where they resided for many years. Together they raised five children, and a foster daughter. Peter became a psychiatric nurse and social worker while working at the hospital. He finished his work career serving Canada Pension Plan.
Dad was a loyal and loving husband for 61 years, until Mom's passing in 2010. He shared with Mom in the joy of family, many outdoor pursuits, travelling, and numerous projects in the home and the community. Dad was a very active man and participated in many recreational activities well into his eighties, such as X-country skiing, curling, golfing, to name a few.
His relationship with God shone in every aspect of his life. His faith was reflected daily in his relationship with people. He had an outgoing, enthusiastic, and caring nature. He was a thankful and humble man, often saying that "he was grateful to God for his many blessings." Dad was at peace and was prepared to go to heaven to meet his Lord. On Tuesday, July 1, 2014 - God called him home.
Survived by his children: Dave (Candace); Edith (Tim Muri); Gordon (Liz); Elaine; Doug; and foster daughter Karen (Don Kehler); ten grandchildren – Chris, Angela (Peter), Suzanne; Peter; Nick (Stefani), Kailyn (Chad), Alex (Danusja); Matthew (Nikki), Christie (Trevor), James; and seven great-grandchildren – Mary, Oliver and Walter; Roman and Grace; Alexandria and Isabella.
