I remember going to Brandon with my father (James Wilcox) to visit Melvin. But this time was different and I got to visit his shop, what a wow for a kid. Seemed Melvin could duplicate what ever he saw, at that time the scaled steam tractor was still being worked on and it was pretty amazing. Always enjoyed the fact he would take time to explain every thing as far as a persons attention span could handle.
He was also the only man I have ever met that could play cards around xmas and sleep durning everyone's turn. Yet wake up and win rather often, thus always figured he could memorize cards but could never prove it.
