Obituary of Barbara Robertson

ROBERTSON: Barbara Margaret Robertson, a long-time resident of Brandon Manitoba, passed away on Wednesday the 2nd of February at the Assiniboine Center, at the age of 79 years. Born in Calgary, Alberta in 1937, she moved to Winnipeg as a young girl. Barbara was very active in the Girl Guides throughout her life. After being awarded her Gold Cord, she went on to be involved in the Rangers and later the Trefoil Guild. After attending Gordon Bell High School, Barbara completed her nursing training at St. Boniface General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with honors in 1957. She went on to obtain a post graduate in obstetrical nursing in Ottawa. Returning to Winnipeg, she taught nursing at St. Boniface while completing her degree through the University of Manitoba in 1966. Faith was a vital part of Barbara's life and she was a long time member of St. Matthew's Anglican Cathedral. Barbara was a member of the Mardi Club and served on many church committees. At the same time Barbara was active with many community groups including the Quota Club, Terminal Care Hospice and was on the board of Hobbs Manor. For her community service she was awarded the YWCA Women of Distinction Award in 1996. Barbara loved to travel and visited many countries over the years. She also loved bird watching, cross country skiing, reading, TV game shows, crossword puzzles, playing scrabble, and cuddling with her cats. She is survived by her nieces: Debbie (Marty) Renwick, Sharon (Art) Officer; nephews: Brian Robertson, Donny Robertson; her grandnieces: Brenda (Colin) Friesen, Ashley Officer, Cossette Robertson and great grand-nephews: Dexter & Heath Friesen. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 11th 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Matthews Cathedral, 403-13th Street, Brandon, Manitoba.
