Obituary of Daniel "John" Montgomery

MONTGOMERY: Daniel John Montgomery passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the age of 84 years. John was born in Toronto, ON, and at the age of seven, he was placed as a ward of the Children's Aid Society and stayed there until he was 18 years of age. He was educated in various schools in the Hawkstone and Toronto areas of Ontario. After attending high school at Humberside Collegiate, John did various jobs until he joined the Canadian Army in Toronto in 1950, serving in the Ordinance Brigade Stores. He spent 25 years in the Forces, working his way up from a private to a Master Corporal. He spent 25 years serving in various locations, including: Continental Europe, Cypress, Churchill, MB and London, ON. John met his wife to be, Marybelle, at a gas station in London, ON. After John's two year deployment to Germany came to an end, John and Marybelle were married in London, ON, on October 15, 1960 and went on to have two sons Kevin and Kurt. After eight years in Petawawa and three years serving at the Radar Station in Holtyre, ON, John and Marybelle were posted to Shilo, MB; retiring three years later in 1976 in Brandon. After retiring from the Army, John worked at MacArthur Truck and Trailer Parts as the Parts Manager for 15 years and then went on to work for then Fort Garry Industries in their sales department for another 15 years. Some of John's major interests and hobbies were in C.B. Radios, chatting with people all over the world. He enjoyed attending stock car races with Marybelle having raced his own stock-car in London, ON, as well as playing his accordion back in the day. He also collected CD's, DVD's and books. John is survived by sons Kevin Montgomery and Kurt (Kathy) Montgomery and grandchildren Katarina and Josh. A Memorial Service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-2430 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7B 0M5.
