Obituary of Leonard Dyck

DYCK: Leonard Herman Dyck passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Rideau Park Personal Care Home with his wife Sandra by his side. Leonard was born on April 21, 1946 in Coaldale, Alberta where he lived with his parents, one sister, Linda, and two brothers, Lawrence and Arnold. They lived in part of the barn while the family home was being built. After many different jobs, Leonard obtained his chef's papers in Lethbridge and in 1971, married Sandra. Their first home was an older, very small, but cozy home in Coaldale. Leonard found that a chef's pay was not that great and found an opportunity to participate in an apprenticeship program in Calgary, AB where he obtained his journeyman plumber/pipefitters papers. This eventually led him to a permanent position at Canadian Oxy in Brandon, MB in 1978. In 1998, his health forced him to go on disability leave and that didn't stop him from enjoying many summers with his grandchildren, especially fishing. Leonard's strong faith carried him through so many difficult times and problems with his health. In all his pain he still loved to share how blessed he was. He will be remembered for his corny but wonderful sense of humor and his willingness to always help others. Leonard is survived by his wife, Sandra, a special daughter, Cheryl Nixon and four very special grandchildren, Lacey, Dylan, Devlin and Cole Nixon. Leonard is also survived by his sister, Linda and her husband Ken Stenbeck, brothers, Larry and Arnold (Helga), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Maria Dyck and sister-in-law, Inez Dyck. The Funeral Service will be at Grace Lutheran Church, 3101 Victoria Avenue, on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Leonard may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 201-1 Wesley Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4C6, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1379 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5 or to the Grace Lutheran Church, 3101 Victoria Ave. Brandon, MB, R7B 3P3.
