Obituary of Audrey Cornell

CORNELL: Audrey Lorraine (née Kidd) passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the age of 98 years. Audrey was born in Zealandia, Saskatchewan on March 14, 1921 to Ethel and Roy Kidd. She met Arnie Cornell at the age of 14 and they married on September 19, 1939. They had three children: Don, Pat and Linda; who became a focal point of their lives as all three were active in sports and other endeavours. Her grandchildren also kept her busy attending their various activities. The rink became a second home for hockey and, in particular, figure skating, as all of the girls participated with Pat going on to become a triple gold medal judge and Tammy turning a successful skating career into a profession as a top coach in Manitoba. Audrey became a well-known figure at the rink. Family was always Audrey's primary focus. She was a tremendous cook and her baking was praise worthy. She loved planning for and hosting meals and special occasions. When Arnie passed a new family tradition evolved. Sunday mornings family members would come to Audrey's home to visit and she would try some new recipe. Word got out and extended family members began to join what became known as the Breakfast Club. This continued right up until shortly before her hospitalization. Audrey is survived by son Don (Carol) Cornell and daughter Linda Petry; grandchildren Melody Geissler; Tammy (Grant) McKay; Terry (Mary) Josephson; Chris Petry; Bryan (Shelley) Petry; Eddie (Maurina) Petry; great-grandchildren: Ryan; Teagan (Troy); Travis (Candace); Danielle (Jake); Nicholas; Julianna; Memphis; Billie; Joslynne; Dylan; Judy and Joshua; and great-great grandchild Max; sister Eileen and numerous nieces and nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her husband Arnie in 1990, daughter Pat and son-in-law Brian Josephson; sister June and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. Cremation has occurred and at Audrey's request, a private family graveside service will take place at a future date. The family appreciates the kindness and care of Dr. Duncan and the staff at Station One at the Brandon Clinic; as well as the staff on A2 and A3. Donations in memory of Audrey may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6.
