Obituary of Judith "Judy" Grobowsky

GROBOWSKY: Mrs. Judith Grobowsky passed away peacefully, with family at her side, at the Salvation Army Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the age of 78 years.   She was born in Frontier, Saskatchewan on October 13, 1942, the youngest daughter of Paul and Margaret Giverhaug.  She received her education in Eastend, Saskatchewan and was a gifted actress in high school winning trophies for her skill.  She also won a “Best Actress” award in Regina for her role in a play in 1958.  She met her future husband, Vern, playing basketball in Shaunavon.  After school, Judy moved to Regina to attend the Marvel Beauty School and after graduation opened her own hair salon in Shaunavon.

Judy and Vern married April 22, 1961 in Shaunavon.   They lived a few places in British Columbia and Ontario before settling in Rivers, Manitoba.  Judy raised the kids and held several part-time jobs.  She loved making homemade buns and lefse for her family.   As the kids grew older, she went back to school and proudly received her Nurses Aid Certificate.  She began work at the Rivers Hospital and Care Home.  She enjoyed working with the elderly and disabled patients.  She also worked with the Rivers Ambulance as a volunteer First Responder.

Judy and Vern loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to the Bahamas, Branson and Yuma.  They loved going on road trips to visit their children and then once their grandchildren Alyson and Julia were born, they were the apple of their eye.    In 2012, Judy travelled with her kids on a dream trip to Norway to visit relatives and the beautiful country of her heritage.  After returning, her health declined. In 2014, she moved into Winnipeg with family and then in 2015, into Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg where she lived until her passing.

Judy will be dearly missed by her family: daughter Natalie (Jim) and granddaughters Alyson and Julia; son Dean (Kerri); daughter Coralie (Danny) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Judy was predeceased by her parents Paul and Margaret Giverhaug; her sister Mona Tiedeman, her husband Vern and uncles: Oscar, Osmond, Edwin, John, Ivor and cousins: Bumpy (Gloria) and Siggy, and niece Jillian, nephew Clinton, brother(s)-in-law Ray Grobowsky and Ray Hanlon, aunt Alice Wiley, uncle Preston and cousin Linda Wiley.  The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Brockie Donovan Chapel with Rev. Margret Kristjansson officiating.  Interment followed at Rivers Cemetery.  Due to COVID-19, family asked that no one travel to attend the service but rather invite you to watch the service and video tribute below.

Thank you to everyone who loved and cared for our Mom.  Flowers gratefully declined, but those wishing so may donate to a charity of their choice in memory of Judy.  She would be glad others were helped after her passing as she helped others while she was living.

Our Mom and Grandma finally got her wings!!
