Jim saw everybody cross the lawn outside his patio doors and I bet I was waved in 200-300 times for great, happy conversations.
Jim gave me a worn out bill holder from Otto's Hardware, who I knew well, and I think of Jim every time I pay for anything. He offered a newish one, but I took the one from a box of odds and ends that he had once used. I saved the seeds from the cherry tomato plant on his step that everybody 'stole' from and have plants every year from Jim. It hit hard one day when I crossed the courtyard in anticipation of a smiling Jim waving me in and he had been moved out.
